Training update: New chapter... doing what's best for me...

Sometimes, the hardest thing to do is to let go....

If it no longer serves the purpose for you, it's best to let go of it... and find something else.

No, I'm not talking about that ragged old shirt you hang onto because it has holes, and it has the "always worn" feel when you put it on.

I'm referring to leaving the Crossfit Box where you started.   Some of the things that I will miss will be seeing the people that I became friends with.  These are the same people that share that journey with you.  All suffer that agonizing WOD, or the moment you succeed or even the moment when you failed and wanted to die; but they were there to cheer you on!

It's all about getting what you need....  what's good for you...

I've decided to leave and pursue other avenues of training.  This decision has been on my mind for the last 6 months and the signs been there almost a year.

Here's an article that sums up one of the issues that I saw..

...It's about People, community...

There were other issues that plague our box.   I wasn't the only one that made suggestions to remedy the issues.   Either the message was never passed off to those in charge or it was just waved away.

While others would probably have pulled the plug sooner when things weren't changing,  I for one always hopes for the best.   [My personal character flaw #2532]

While the list is long, I feel that I had identified and share the majority of the issues with the owner.  I certainly hope the owners will take my suggestions seriously and make the necessary changes now to curb the current exodus of clients.   There are other issues... but it's water underneath the bridge.   I'll be starting a new chapter!

I wish them all the best as I hope they will succeed and conquer the challenges they face.

What are my plans?

Well, I seen to have develop an appreciation for Olympic Lifting and will be pursuing additional training on this.  I've been attending personal group training with a local training facility, called Farmstrong.

It has been questioned by others if they are qualified to be teaching these movements.   You can read their BIO's about them and make your own decisions.

There has been some interesting views about Olympic Lifting and Crossfit Oly Lifting.  It has spurred some difference of opinions..     Again, I'll share some links that should provide some clarifications between them.    And like one of the articles; it's good to know both..

A less technical explanation between Traditional technique vs Crossfit Approach:

There always more than one way to do things.. Here’s a nice article from Dave Castro, Crossfit Inc. explaining the variations in techniques between Crossfit Oly Lifting and traditional Oly Lifting.

I will continue with the training that will provide what's best for me.   I think I summed it up pretty much in one of my earlier blog entries...  (Feb 11:  Last 4 months; Oly lifting, Powerlifting, Yoga, Crossfit... finding Balance)

Best analogy heard to date (regarding departing a Crossfit Box):

Treat it as you are leaving your current job for another job at another company. The friends you made at your current workplace will still be your friends. Those who choose not to be your friend because you took a job at another company; then they are either shallow or just weren't really that important in the end.

For me, the change is necessary.  I need something else.  More coaching, different programming to focus on areas that I'm weak at.   Things that were never made available because I didn't fit that 'class' or level of fitness.

I want to be surrounded by positive people and people that will support me as I will for them.  I may not be the elite athletes that will be going to the regionals, but just recognize that I'm still part of the group and working hard toward my own goals.    I do look forward to training with coaches who listens before advising you.  The key word here is, "Listen!".

I'm looking forward to a new home....
