Programming and coaching by our Head Olympic Lifting Coach: AJ Facendi
Thoughts:
When participating in the Crossfit Open, it tends to interfere with training. Well, normally it does; but not so much this year. I've been so focus on Olympic lifting, that my training usually happen at the beginning of the week.
I've also went and tried out a new gym, not a crossfit box prior to my trip. Mainly it was to try out the Eleiko plates and barbells, plus check out the new facility.
Here is the link to that post: http://lifewithxfit.blogspot.com/2018/02/evolve-strength-strength-training.html
The only thing that disrupted the training was my trip to Arizona for a week. Thus why you don't see any programming for the week of the 19th. And yes, I went and visited a Crossfit box (I always do when I'm travelling) and did a WOD. See post here: http://lifewithxfit.blogspot.com/2018/02/green-valley-crossfit-february-20-2018.html
Two days after I got back from my trip to Arizona, I went to the Evolve Strength, but at their south location. Surprising to me, that location was just a few blocks away from Crossfit Armoury South. I attended a 4 hour Weightlifting seminar there and picked up some interesting tidbits.
It actually fixed the issues that I've been working on with my Jerks. If you saw one of my earlier blog entry, I have a tendency to hinge forward when the weight is heavy when the barbell is rack in front of me, prior to me dipping. Well, you can imagine the bar path of where that is going, and how much effort I try to direct the bar path. The method shown to me had remedy that, and the last week of February. I had made the change and slowly increasing my weight with that technique. Very surprise... and again, something that my coach had mentioned to me.
One of the advantages of learning from different coaches are the different ways of explaining that the same thing. Even thou Coach AJ was explaining the same movement, I just didn't understand it. Whereas, the other coach at the seminar had explained it to me and it just clicked.
While I may have resolve this portion of my jerk, I now need to focus on my rear landing foot placement. I find that there are times that when I land on the split jerk, my rear foot placement is incorrect, more flat. As one of my olympic lifting class mate pointed out, "you're not lifting that heal up high enough. I can barely stick a sheet of paper underneath it!!" It's a hit and miss for me. More tweaks in the weeks to come.
