Crossfit Armoury - August 30, 2017: Speciality class: Olympic Lifting
Wednesday; August 29, 2017 @ Crossfit Armoury - West |
Coach: AJ Facendi
My thoughts:
Always good to see coach AJ. I was happy to share with her of my last snatch PR when she started her holidays. The consistency of this class has started to pay off.
As excited I was to see her back, I told her I would be missing her class this upcoming Sunday as I would be out of town for family. After all, it was the long weekend.
Since starting these olympic lifting class back in July, I've only missed two classes. That's how much I like the class over most things I do. Crossfit or not.
Snatch:
Worked on the Tall Snatches, starting with the empty barbell and eventually moving to adding some weight (75 lbs)
The exercise called for 4 Snatches + 3 Behind the Neck Presses + 2 Overhead Squats, followed by 1 Drop Snatch. Felt easy with light weight, but as weight got heavy; it was punishing.
Clean & Jerk:
Continuing with the Tall Cleans for 3 sets of 3 reps; this really helps me focus on my positioning and ensuring that I pull that barbell up to a "scarecrow" pose, before ensuring I have a fast elbow on the catch of the bar. I need to work on my speed.
Exercise called for Touch and Go (TnG) Cleans. No Jerks were involved with this. But there are lot of reps, which usually means I'll be taking as much rest in between. Mainly to wipe the sweat off and to get some air in my system.
I did do my standard post-it Note pre-calculation and stuck it on the platform.
I use that information to gather the appropriate weight so I don't have to track all over the box to get them, as that would be a waste of time and energy.
I started with my 50% which works out to be 105 lb (rounded up) for 5 reps. I asked for clarification from Coach AJ and the TnG Cleans would have to be Squat cleans.
The end value at 90% is 185 lb for me. Most of the class finished when I reached the 80% mark. Considering that I only had 2 reps @ 85% and 2 reps @ 90% mark; it would take me another 15 minutes pass the finish of the class to finish. I wanted to finish and the coach was okay for me to stay pass the time.
There is something rewarding for finishing, even if it take a bit more time. For me, it's about improving myself. However long it will take.
