Crossfit Armoury - August 23, 2017: Speciality Class - Olympic Lifting

 Wednesday; August 23, 2017 @ Crossfit Armoury - West

Coach:  Amie

Snatch:
Today's exercise calls for the Squat Snatch wave.  Based on percentage, pre-calculated out my numbers and stuck it on my Post-it-Note (see below).  These type of exercises; I'm starting to enjoy.  It' something that is properly structured, and obtainable based on percentage/weight.  And it's something that allows me to stay focus on my technique.  Especially when the coach is around and watching you.   Giving me tips and correction as needed.   The other big thing that I do like, is the ability to take a bit more time in between for rest.  And one can definitely see the progress each week as similar exercises occurs.

My Post-it-Note; Pre-calculations before class
(because I can't do math when I'm lifting heavy)

Clean & Jerk:
Warmed up and building up my weight to 85% of my 1 RM.  Surprisingly, 175 lb felt very heavy for a power clean, and I failed on my lift.  I opted to drop it down by 10 lb, to 165 lb.  Much better at this being successful than failing at 175 lb, was my theory.   The focus here was to ensure you have fast elbows and bum back catch.   I have slow elbows, and thus I was really focusing on that.  I've seen videos of me doing these moves, and that's been identified as an area to work on.   Push Jerk at a higher weight, tends to go one of two ways.  If I'm really focused and determined; it's not a problem.  If I think too much, and worried about my movement; it usually results in a ugly lift or I abort it.
As identified by many of my coaches; I "think" too much!   If I would just focus on executing and not think; 50% of my problems would go away.    Easier said than done.  You can't imagine the things I'm thinking about when I'm in that mode.

Accessory/Homework:
Moving my accessory/extra credit work to an off day when I'm not doing an olympic lifting class, or a crossfit class.   Just to spread out the load/pain.
