Surprised myself...
After seeing the announcement of the 14.1; I realize that Double Unders may be my downfall.
I've still haven't been able to do one yet! Now I wish I had practice more after class on this.
14.1
10 minute AMRAP
30 Double Unders
15 reps of Power Snatches (75 lbs - Men / 55 lbs - Women)

Friday:
I'm still going to physio to work on my ankle/feet issue. It's getting better every day. While at physio, I had asked my physio if I could do the competition. She gave me a look, an laugh she kept inside and said... "I'm still worried about that toe, as you need to push off with it to jump. If you can do a few skips without any issues. You should be fine. Just stop when it hurts!" I'll take that as a semi-green light!
I talked to one of the coaches, Dan and he mention that all I need is at least 1 Double Under (DU) to move forward to 14.2. Hell, I have 10 minutes to figure out that Double Under. It can't hurt to try for just one. I can then focus on healing and be ready for 14.2 I'll ponder on this overnight.
Saturday:
I came into the box, as I had a consult with one of the Strength coaches. Meanwhile, the place was busy with "Bring a friend day" to try out Crossfit. They were also doing the testing of 14.1; with 4 coaches on-site, each with distinct time that people had signed up for. I saw that there were a few openings that I could get judged. What to do, what to do...
Got my Rx Rope out and try a few skips. Ankle and toe felt good after the skips, decided to go for it. Talked to Kylie as she was available. Went and set-up the weights for the Power Snatches. I push that component out of my mind and then just focus on the DU. I hope I can pull a lucky rabbit out. I kept reminding myself, I just need to get ONE.
Well.. I can safely say after 10 minutes that I finally been able to do my first Double Under. And 2 more for good measure. So, I move forward to 14.2 next week with a score of 3! Yup, 3.. that's 2 more than I was aiming for and yes; it took me the entire 10 minutes. Am I happy? Yes. It's now something that I will work hard on to be able to string them more frequently. Will I get it every time, when I try? No. But the main thing is that I'm gonna try! Went with the suggestion of doing 5 singles and then try for a double under.
Post mortem/analysis (mine); I'm not jumping high enough and I also need to work on my tempo.
I got some advice from Jessica, another crossfitter who has the DU down. She mention that one should try to stay calm and not tense up. I kept that in mind, after each of my failed attempts. I would stop, and take a deep breath. And then try again.. I think I'll be spending some time in front of the mirror after class to work on these... Another challenge, another weakness to conquer. I suspect this will be on the minds of many of the other crossfitters who found DU challenging.
We just need to practice!
For all those who are going to be judge this weekend, best of luck and do your best. For those who had completed 14.1, see you next week at 14.2.
and remember to stay calm and tackle one WOD at a time!!
NOTE: One last thing; I really wanted to give a shout out to ALL of the crossfit'ters that were there after their testing. There were many people who were cheering for me during my testing. Even thou I moved myself far enough away from the main area. I may not had acknowledge it during the testing... Your cheers were heard and it really helped!! Thanks everyone!!!
