Crossfit Armoury - July 23, 2017: Speciality class: Olympic Lifting
Sunday; July 23, 2017 @ Crossfit Armoury - West |
Coach: Meaghan Becker
Thoughts:
Our regular olympic lifting coach is away today, and we had the pleasure of having Meaghan coaching us. The programming is still done by our head Olympic coach, AJ Facendi. Meaghan had a different style of coaching, but followed the program. She was good at demoing each of warmup, and exercises. She also provided feedback to each one of us.
Snatch:
While performing my snatches, coach Meaghan made an observation and commented about my position of my hand on the barbell. It was a bit more narrow than most, and I should position them out further. She explained the effect it will have on my lift. She hit it dead on as I should had known better. Not exactly sure why I had my grip so narrow. Modified it and continue with the rest of the exercise. Calculating my 80 to 85% weight works out to be between 108 to 115 lb; opted to use 115 lb and rest accordingly between sets.
Clean & Jerk:
An observation was made by Coach AJ last week and that I need to use more hip. Thus today's exercise was our choice on what we wanted to work on. I opted to work on the Hang Cleans as it will focus on the 'Pull' and the 'Hip' power. I ended up practicing with some light weights of 95 lb, more so on the technique. The exercise called for 3 reps at lightweight, 2 reps at medium weight and 1 rep at heavyweight. The weight that I used for this was 115 lb, 135 lb, and 155, and lastly settle on 165 lb for my heavy single.
Extra Credit / Home work:
Didn't stay around for any extra credit work as I had plans this afternoon.
