Day 30: Dranked the Kool-aid and never going back
Well, it's been 30 days of Crossfit. Yup, 30 days, not one month; but actual days that I've been doing crossfit. There were some breaks along the way, due to injuries.. But as painful as it was to stop, pause, rethink, and move forward; I wrote about it. Why? Well, why just share the good things, and not the bad. It's all part of my journey. Not everything happens perfectly in life..
Started back in Late January 2013 with a friend, Leanne. We were part of a group that worked out regularly. Working out at the gym 3 times a week, regular scheduled paid classes and doing extra workouts on the weekends. To make it interesting; we would design our own circuit training, share and commit to it. Pushing thru the 75 to 90 minutes workout. I even blogged about it and yes, you can see those if you wish.
Leanne asked if I wanted to give Crossfit a try. I jumped at it upon hearing about. I had originally looked at crossfit about 2 years ago, but couldn't find anyone wanting to give it a try. That and the fact the cost was considerably more expensive (about 3 times my then monthly membership) than my regular gym. So, I opt out of that and search for other exercise programs like Kettlebells, Toughen Up, TRX, etc. I have no regrets for taking those programs as I think they had set me up for Crossfit.
We both took the required Fundamental I and II class which covers important information on exercises and technique for safe participation in CrossFit classes. The two classes were two hours, each spread over two days. After each of those classes, I felt worn out. I remembered after the second class, my quads were burning as I've never done so many squats. Who knew at that time, that was just the beginning of what would be a regular things. Squats are your best friend!
Fast forward to today... Doing things you didn't think you could do before. This picture probably describes it the best. As long as you have the mindset to move forward, be open and part of the crossfit community, support others.. you'll fit in. Positive thinking, attitude, always encourages confidence and self respect.
Tonight will mark day 30; and I'll post the WOD after my class. This will be a small victory for me. Even if the WOD destroys me; I'll be smiling inside. I've made it this far... I want to see what 60, 90, 120 and eventually 365 days of Crossfit will do for me. Like all of us who has began their journey; we all have our goals.
My goals:
1. To do a damn pull up without assist (bands or machine).
2. To do 100 skips without stopping
3. To be able to lift my body weight in
a) Squats
b) Deadlifts
4. To be a better person than I was yesterday
5. I'm sure there will be more goals... I just haven't set them yet..
I'll add another entry tonight after our class about the WOD, until then....
