Today Coach: Nicole
My Thoughts:
Warm-Up; back to the 3 rounds for warm-ups. Caught me off guard when we did 3, maybe I'm not reading the board anymore.
Nicole made modifications for both Jonathan and I. We were to change the running to rowing. Initially Nicole suggested that we do 300 meter rowing and then shortly afterwards; changed it to 500 meter rows. She did say at some point (which comically both Jonathan and I didn't hear) to row only one round. Of course, Jonathan only heard the first bit of 300 meter row and I heard her correction of 500 meters. Needless to say, there were a slight disagreement on the distance was we finished the first warm up. And then as we started the second round of the warmup, finishing our second set of 500 meters; Nicole came by and informed us we only had to do one set of 500 meter. <head shake>
SKILL; front squats; I haven't perform this skill for a while. Looking back at my journal; it appears that the last time that I did this, was June 3rd. About two months ago. I didn't expect much of a gain; but I did managed to do 20 lbs over my max. Mind you, two months ago; I was still doing the 5 x 5 (5 sets, 5 reps) as oppose to now, going for the 1 RM (Rep Max). Progress.
WOD; our modification for the WOD was only on the second 3 Minute AMRAP. We were to do 15 Kettlebell Swings and 15 Sit-Ups. I found after this week of multiple Kettle Bell Swings; it caught up to me. 15 KB swings doesn't seem a whole lot. But by my second set of 15; I was starting to feel it. Tired was the best answer. First Round, managed 3 sets. Second Round; managed only to do 2 sets (barely).
Misc: Fitbit Flex; my new tech toy. Activity monitor and sleep tracker. I mean, do I really need a sleep tracker? When I'm tired, I know I didn't get the sleep that I needed. But it's kinda cool to show how many times you woke (restless), how long it took you to fall asleep. It has tie in to 13 different exercise applications, and more to come. What I do love is that the apps are available on both Android and Apple. Some of the other product is limited to one platform.
Good:
- 5 to 6 days without recharging
- water proof to 10 meters (so you can wear this and swim; and yes, you can shower in this)
- has bluetooth; syncs with your phones
- comes with USB wireless transmitter for syncing with your computer (within 20 feet)
- supports both Android and Apple
- Easy interface (web accessible)
- User friendly
- track sleep (one of the reason I bought it, I'm a stats hog)
- inexpensive ($100; compared to the others like Jawbone Up, and Nike Fuelband).
- supports 13 other third party activity/exercises programs. Ie. MyFitness Pal, Map My Run, etc..
- comfortable to wear, not bulk or anything like that
Bad:
- doesn't track Crossfit activities. Currently, there is nothing on the market that does
(as of August 1, 2013). I'm sure there will be in the near future. I did find a website that gives you
roughly how many calories you burn for each Crossfit activitiy.
- doesn't have a clock (watch)
- can't see results without a phone or a computer.
So, why did I get this, other than fulfill my geeky side (I'm in IT). It something to give me additional motivation on a different level. I've used it for about 10 days and it has performed as advertised. Looking forward to tying in with other applications.

I'm curious who else has this device? I've seen one posting for someone who got a Jawbone UP, but not a lot of other such as the Nike Fuelband.
Until the next time, ... tackling one WOD at a time!
