Crossfit Armoury had decided this year, the first year for us to participate in this event.  The event would start Saturday; October 21, 2017 at 9 am and would finish 24 hours later on Sunday; October 22, 2017.

Special thanks to Casey Francisco and Coach Jason Roncesvalles for organizing this amazing event.  And a big shout out to all those who donated to the cause!

October 20, 2017:
The day before leading up to the CF 24 event.  Meal prep, and other fine supplements.

Making a PORK LOIN Roast to be used in my sandwiches.
I need my protein!!

Supplements, mixed with natural goodies

Over prepared?  No, just in case.  If anything, it will be shared!
Stick it into the cooler along with some drinks!

It's not all for me, but it's for sharing with the rest of the participants.  I tend to over prepare, and considering that this is the first time.  I don't know what to expect.

Day of CF | 24: October 21, 2017:

Those who arrived early had set up the Air cushion/banana/whatever its called

Chilling out before, while we wait for the rest of the participants/athletes to arrive

To give you an idea of the workouts that we had to do, here it is.

I managed to hit a PR on the 1 RM Back Squat.  Very early in the game, WOD #3 of 24.   I hit 295 lb, a 10 lb PR.  I came close to my long term milestone of 300.  However, I kept myself from going flat out as I had another 21 more WODs to do.   Thus, it will be another battle on another day to hit my milestone.

The would be an event mid morning that we had a team of athletes of special olympic who would be participating with us.   We had an amazing time talking to them as well as the coach.   Sorry, I wasn't thinking and didn't get a chance to take pictures of them or with them.  However, there are a few pictures from other athletes who did.

WOD #5 / 24

There were an abundant of athletes, and many supporters who came out to watch, provide endless amount of food, coffee, doughnuts.

Did someone say Doughnuts?  Cupcakes from Cake Affair

Coffee, more TIMBITS, Recovery drinks, Water, big coffee / or some happy liquids

Each one of the participants were also to bring something for the potluck (which later became our lunch and later dinner, as well as snacks in between).

Had a chance to team up with Rob Hansen, who was my team partner for Fight of the Fittest from 2016.   It was nice to team up with him.   Although, I won't tell you what crazy things we do to each other, in the spirit of competition.

Still smiling.... for now...  LOL

Killing time in between WOD; one of the most memorable was the Giant Jenga game.

We also had a drop-in by one of our neighbouring Crossfit box; Rock Jungle Crossfit. (West and Downtown location).  They came over to participate with our box for the 11 PM WOD.   This was a nice, as it gave all of us something to do and to mingle with others.   As some of you know; this was my old crossfit box.   It was great to meet new people and as well as seeing some familiar faces.

I cannot thank the countless volunteers, family, and friends who drop by.  Especially around the 1 AM timeframe where it felt like we were all in a Zombie like fog.   Everyone was either half dozing, or were staring endlessly into the space.  Others were on their phones (like me who tried to take pictures, but would take another 35 minutes to try and compose something witty or just something that made sense for Instagram).

My Zombie look

More Zombies

Also some of the sponsors, such as Die Pie who provided food, specifically All Plant based Pizza.  Even the cheese is plant based, and one would be hard press to tell it wasn't dairy!   I had promised that I would go and try out their restaurant some time in future after this fundraiser.

Some of the other sponsors were Dental Choice (who provided toothbrush, toothpaste and mouth wash) via Candice Rasmussen. Lulu Lemon - West Edmonton Mall, Sweat Bean Coffee, and Cake Affair

We also had some members who brought shampoo and liquid soap for the showers.  Hey, after a hard workout; taking a shower is the next best thing to feeling refresh.

I remembering bring 8 different workout t-shirts.  Figuring that I had at least 3 workouts before swapping.  Okay, it was gross.. but I figure we will all stink at some point and no one would care.  Was I right?  I'm not telling, other than that my knee sleeves could had scared off a skunk.

One of the many owners of Crossfit Armoury, and Coach Jason Roncesvalles also participated in the event.  He was one of the few of us who completed all 24 hours, every workout (24 in case you didn't know) of CF | 24.   He was also the one who came up with the idea of scheduling the workout so we can maximize our time (in case some of us want to catch some snooze).  How, you ask; we would do one of the workout at the beginning of the hour and the next hour would be schedule for closer to the end of the hour.  So between know what the workouts would be, we would essentially get up to 1.5 hours of rest/sleep.  It worked out very well.

Some of the participants/athletes actually brought bed.  As in a comfortable cot.  Smart thinking, while the rest of use either just brought a sleeping bag and pillow (that's me); others brought that and a foamy for underneath for the hard  floor(not me).

I can't say that it was the wises thing for me to nap, even if it was for 20 minutes.  I found I had some mobility issues standing/moving afterwards.  Felt like I aged myself 30 years!!   Took a while to get the blood moving thru my limbs.

But the one that probably did the trick was the sleep from 5am to 5:45 am.  We had a 6 am run for 800 meter.  Yup, a good way to wake everyone up.  I can't say, that the three of us (in our party) were that enthusiastic to run. We started the run, which then turned into a light jog, and then a shuffle.

Waking up / limbering up before the exciting 800 meter run

WOD # 21 / 24

Dawn S., Tony Q, Casey F;  out for our 800 meter run.
There is always time for pictures!!
!

The three of us, Dawn S, Casey F., and myself ended up walking.  Walking back to the box and greeted by our lead with a frown (that we didn't run, not even the last 100 meter where you can see the door where he stood).  He was not impressed!  I'm tired, we were all tired!!

The last 100 meter quick walk/shuffle to back of the door to the box.
If you squint, you can see Coach Jason waiting for us at the door

Now that a lot of us had some energy, slight refreshed after the run.  I was looking forward to the next WOD, WOD #22.  We had 10 minutes to build up to our 1 RM Strict Press.  Yes, this is my jam, and I wanted to prove (to those young pups in my box, that I can crush this).  At least that was my theory I had in my head..  Hey, when you are sleep deprived and been filled with countless caffeine drinks, energy drinks, recovery drinks, doughnuts, Timbits, food; you start to go crazy. Well it was probably the body working/doing it's best to keep me going.
That or it was my Second, Third or Fifth wind.  Whatever it was, there is a video of me on Instagram going for it and actually crushing it.

I managed to hit 165 lb for a Strict Press.  That's a 10 lb gain and a PR!    Yup, mission accomplish!!   I had a few of the athletes ask me... "WTF!!  You just did 21 workouts prior and yet, you still had enough energy left to hit a PR!?!"   YUP, unknown to them; I had a goal.  Silly motivation/goal.

You can find additional pictures as the event had unfolded on my Instagram.

For me, this event showed to myself that no matter how fit, or unfit we are.  One can push thru any type of a workout.  One part of these workouts is the will to complete them, the will to finish.  A good part of these workouts at the later times, 18 hours later became more of a mental game.   The physical part of my body, being pushed and supported by caffeine, sugar, became a non issue when we realize that it was only a few more workouts left.  That and when you look at all the other athletes that are in a similar boat as you; one can't help that you know you are not alone.  This is what community is all about, supporting each other.

As we near the end with a few workouts left; a few people were out showing their dance moves.  Others, joked around and were contemplating how they were planning to spend the rest of the day to recover.

In case anyone was still hungry, or need some last minute energy boost. The fridge was packed full of left over Tim Horton's doughnuts, and more doughnuts.  No lack of sugar..

Our last WOD, 24 / 24 was for Time.   100 Thrusters (95 lb / 65 lb).  1 Athletes works at a time. We decided to split the thruster between the remaining athletes evenly.   Leaving the last set for our leader, and Coach Jason.   I managed to finish my set, and ran to get my phone and recorded him finishing it.

That was it, once done; group pictures.  We all gather our stuff and ran out of the gym.  As mentioned by the few of us who were still there in the parking lot (busily typing into the phone, Social Media updates), never seen so many people leave the parking lot in such a rush.   I had the opportunity to see 30+ vehicles exit in an very orderly manner within 60 seconds.

In the end, Crossfit Armoury raised $5,440.00   Not bad considering that this was our first year participating in this event.

Looking forward to next years event.....
