Scaled but moving it.... Open 15.1/15.1a
My results after finishing Crossfit Open 15.1/15.1A - February 27, 2015 |
Open Workout 15.1/15.1A - Rx shown |
Anyways, my results were 153 reps (5 rounds and 3 Knees-to-Bar) for 15.1 and 165 lbs for 15.1A.
I've never tried to do a 1 RM Clean & Jerk. I've done a few of those during drills and what not; but the weight was significantly lighter. I knew going in that I should been able to do at least 155 lbs (managed to hit that a few weeks back - Squat Clean) However, after doing 15.1; I knew I would be exhausted and may not be able to hit it. It took me two attempts to get the 165 lbs. It wasn't pretty, something that I will definitely need to work on. But it's in the books.
The excitement this year for the Open was mixed for me. I struggled between putting it off for another year or just going for it. I had many people that talked to me about it, and they were very supportive/suggesting that I should compete. Nothing is lost for trying, and with the scaled division; there is less chance of injuries. Plus, the Open will serve as a benchmark for certain movements and lifts. I will get to see if all the effort that I had put in for the last 11 months made a difference.
Energy was high at the box as it was done quite a bit different then last year. As mention in my previous post, our box decided to adopt something from Catalyst Fitness. See Rock Jungle's page here: http://www.rockjunglefitness.com/blog.html
Since Rock Jungle now have two locations (West end - where I train out of; and the Downtown location). Teams were created out each location. It ended up with two teams per site, which foster some friendly competition and as well as meeting new people during the warm-ups, post 15.1 workout. The team layout can be seen on Rock Jungle's Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RockJungleFitness
Each team had two captains, they were there to support you and answer questions. Our team is called Team Mother Thrusters Love the name!!! There are 19 people on our team + 2 captains The last time I checked, there are 80 people who had signed up (both locations). Some of those had done the test outside of Friday evening planned event due to prior commitments.
Rock Jungle's 15.1 HEATS for testing |
The above is the schedule for testing, with 7 lanes and a judge in each. I ended up staying after my test at 7:00 PM; it's only fair to cheer on others!!! Beside, its always rewarding to watch others succeed in their journey. It was quite busy with competitors waiting for their turn to be tested, family and friends in attendance to cheer their love ones on. Nothing better to get one charged up than hearing your name being shouted/cheered as you struggle to complete your rep.
There was a section of the gym fenced off for warm ups and another area fenced off for people to watch.

Competition brings out the best of us. For some, the journey in itself is an adventure. The end results of all the hard work is the reward.

Open Workout 15.1/15.1a - VARIATIONS OF MOVEMENT |
Looking forward to our second week of the Open; 15.2 should be interesting. I have no idea what Crossfit HQ have up their sleeve. It could involve, Wall balls, Rowing and the every so dreaded; Burpees or any one of the movements we do in class.
Either way, I'll tackle it like I do when I show up at the box, one WOD at a time!!!
Remember, have fun and stay positive!!
