Crossfit Armoury - March 18, 2018: #INVEST Sunday WOD

Sunday; March 18, 2018 - #INVEST - @ Crossfit Armoury - West

A few others who was doing the #INVEST

Thoughts:
Seems like I go thru phases with workouts, changing things ups is always good.  I think I've been doing so much Olympic lifting, and now participating in the Crossfit Open; I needed something else.

I've heard so much about #INVEST for so long, and I see the people on Sundays performing the WODS.

Brain child of these Sunday's WOD is Devin Hart.   About 8 months ago, Devin had wanted to do Murph, but with a Weighted Vest.  He had put it out there in our internal Armoury's members private Facebook group to see if anyone else wanted to join in on the fun.  He tells me, that he was only expect 2 or 3; instead a dozen people had shown up.

After that, he started to run this #INVEST wods weekly and on Sunday, totally volunteer base.   Originally it was for most people who wanted a challenge, while wearing a vest.   Then a few weeks goes by and the popularity of these Sunday's #INVEST started to ramp up.

I remember one time when I came in for Gymnastic, and there were actually more people in the Sunday #INVEST WOD than the actual gymnastic class.

Fast forward, #INVEST open up the workouts for everyone.  Allowing the rest of Armoury members to scale as needed.

Here were are, 8 months later; and I finally had a chance to join them.  Because of the Crossfit Open, and 18.4 was still being tested by members.  The actual workout was not published a few days prior.   Devin, along with Meaghan came up on the spot with a workout.   I think from my understanding that it's Devin, along with a few other key people such as Meaghan Becker and Amanda Smalls has a huge part of #INVEST.

Just like all Crossfit WODS; everything is SCALABLE.

Today's WOD was a partner's workout.   Don't let the number fool you and think that it's impossible.  Everything is possible!  This is crossfit!

I was partnered with Devin, who was wearing his weighted vest.  (If you want to see what he chose for a vest, check out his Instagram)

The rules for the workout was, that if the person who was doing the work breaks, he/she has to go and do a 30 second hold in a plank before the other partner starts.

I asked that what if one partner wants to do all the work on a certain movement?  Devin said it was fine.   Who would do that?    Well, I like skipping.  I opted to volunteer and do them in singles.   I guess the Crossfit Open 18.4 wasn't enough of a challenge to tire me out.  And perhaps I've gotten re-energized to do crossfit again.   Devin was fine with that.   Communication is key with your partner.  I stopped a few times because I tripped on my skips, but resumed immediately afterwards.

Wall balls is using a 20 lb ball; while Devin performed them in his vest.  I was vestless.. Still a heavy workout.  I alway hate them, the wallballs. But this WOD really helps pushes oneself, mental game and all.   There were a lot of 30 second planks perform during this.  I was average about 15 wall balls per turn, whereas Devin was doing on an average of 25 to 35.

Modification for Pull-ups for me was the Ring row.   Again, it just amazes me to see so many people (guys and girls) who has that skill to do these movements with the vest.

At first, I found the 30 seconds planks was more a rest/recovery for me.   That change later when my core started to go and it become more of a workout.

Devin/Meaghan; What a wicked WOD!!

The last movement was Box Jumps.  I scaled mine to Step Ups/Down.  We just alternated steps for the entire 100.

Time it took us to finish the WOD was 32:37 seconds.

What did I learn about today workout?  I do miss doing Crossfit.  The one class every odd month is not enough.   Sometimes I do feel like I've hide behind Olympic lifting.  It's been almost 9 months that I've being doing what I like.  There is nothing wrong with that.

I guess it's time to come back and do a few more than one class every now and then.   Yes, you will see me in future #INVEST Sundays and probably in a few more regular Crossfit classes.   Until then, check back on the blog for more WODS.
