Every year, after completion of the Open. I tend to take some time to reflect.
1. ASSESS: Identify the weakness, some are very glaring; other where I can make slight improvement.
2. SET GOALS: Determine what I need to do to resolve those weakness.
3. EXECUTE: Work toward the new goals, however long it may take. Practice, practice with consistency, practice with intention.
I may not be a games or even a regional athlete. But I do want to improve on my skills.
This year was a bit different, considering that for the last 8 months; I've been focusing on lifting, Olympic lifting. I wasn't' even considering doing the Crossfit Open. Not making excuses; but I am happy that I participated. With the new format, in-house Armoury competition; it brought a lot of newer athletes with the more veteran and seasoned athletes. Go Team Expendables!!! Love the in-house format! It actually, brought our crossfit community a bit more togetherness. If anything, it has brought me back to the Crossfit scene.
I've been doing Olympic lifting for many reasons. At the time, when I started; it was for two major reasons. It was on my list of things that I said I would do when I finally had time and made it happen. Two; it was at a time I needed the change and the structure to keep me focus as I was dealing with too many personal issues. Those who read my blog will know the reasons.
I had not at the time when I started Olympic lifting, would expect that I would fall in love with it. Probably because, I could see progression more so than I would with Crossfit. It was essentially two movements that I would work on. But it proves that if you are consistent with any workout, any movement; you can excel!
As always, Crossfit shows the areas you are weak in. Those will be my new goals for this year.
The in-house Armoury Open competition, had allowed me to interact with newer faces, familiar faces and faces I've seen but never interact with. This has brought on some shared goals, togetherness, and support.
These are the things that is so hard to explain to non crossfitters. Support, passion, and a family-like atmosphere when you do crossfit. I now find myself interacting with a lot more people than I did before (not saying, I was a lone wolf). And now, I get to participate with a nice workout group that goes steadily in the evening.
You'll probably notice that I've been doing a few more crossfit classes and started back with Gymnastics.
I will continue with this for the near future... trying excel in certain areas.. at the same time pursue my other love, Olympic lifting. The next few months should prove to be interesting...
CHANGE; sometime is the best thing for people.
