Crossfit Armoury - May 27, 2018: #inVEST Sunday Funday

#InVEST is heading outside this Sunday! With Regionals happening this weekend, we aren't going to be able to get in to the West for our normal inVest workout, so we're moving it to the Wolf Willow stairs!

The note from Team #inVEST:

We'll meet there at 930 (yes it's earlier so we can get the workout done before it gets too hot).

Please bring a KB or DBs if you have any, we'll sort out some sort of AMRAP involving the stairs and whatever equipment we have once we know what we've got!

We'll meet at the entrance at 930, hope to see you there!

5 sets of Stairs

Each time you do a set of stairs; you must complete 1 set of 20 reps - one of these movements with a pair of dumb bells (you pick a weight) or a Kettlebell

- Push Press
- Sumo Deadlift High Pull
- Kettle Bell Swing
- KB/DB Snatch

Wolf Willow Stairs (200 stairs); one of Edmonton's steepest stairs

I didn't bring my phone so no pictures from me.

Thoughts:

Another fun filled morning with the #inVEST team.    Quite the workout today planned by the crew.  A lot of the regulars were wearing their 20 lb vest, and a many of us who were scaling; were not.  (I carry my own 40 lb vest with me as I attempt to shed off the extra weight).

The weather was nice, with the sun beating down; it was early enough that we would avoid the high temperatures of 28 C that would come later.  It was closer to 22 degree at 10:15 when we initially got started.  A slight miscommunication on where the entrance was.  As we had some people in different areas.  I was with the group by the stairs.

Once we got started, the fun began.  I had a slight issues going down the stairs at first and had to keep one hand close to the railing.  It was steep and for a moment, a sense of depth perception caused a bit of panic on my part.  But the latter sets were fine.  That and my legs were getting tired, thus my pace was quite a bit slower.

Appreciate one of the members coming back to get me as I was the slowest (always the slowest) when doing these workouts and motivated me to finish.

Thanks Team #inVEST for the great Sunday Workout!   Looking forward to next week fun!

Despite doing all these sets of stairs, I still felt a bit unaccomplished.  Thus, I headed back to Armoury (as I saw later in our internal Facebook feed that the box was open).  I decided to work on my handstands against the wall.  I wanted to get more comfortable with kicking up.

I opted to make it more interesting for myself and did a 400 meter walk with a 70 lb sack across my shoulder; come in and do 2 to 3 attempts for Handstand against the wall.   I repeated this twice, as on my second round;  my arms gave out and had a bit of an awkward fall to the side.

I then moved to do a few farmer carries; 6x 50 feet with two 70 lb Kettlebells.

Afterwards, it was time to go home.
